Joseph Vukel

Senior Associate

A first-generation college graduate, Joseph has been at the intersection of investing, education and social mobility since graduation. On the investing side, he began his career in Los Angeles with the Private Equity Group of Ares Management, an $8B fund from which he invested across industries and throughout the capital structure in special situations, distressed debt and buyout opportunities. Thereafter, he joined BayPine, a $2B first-time private equity fund with a forward-looking mandate to innovate and accelerate old economy businesses through a digital transformation program.

Outside of investing, Joseph helps lead EdMobilizer, a collective of first-generation college students and professionals who advance socioeconomic mobility through policy-oriented changemaking agendas. He also manages 1vyG, the largest reoccurring summit of first-generation college students and allies in the country. With 350+ attendees, 1vyG has been featured in the NYT and Boston Globe, and to date has been hosted eight times at schools including Cornell, Harvard, Princeton and Yale. Joseph serves on the Junior Board of Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO).

A sociology graduate, Joseph graduated from Brown University as a Sidney E. Frank scholar.
